Sundial on steel panel
Sundial on steel panel, made on a sheet of cor-ten steel, using a numerically controlled laser cutting machine.
In this particular sundial all the hour lines have been drawn as lemniscates (they appear as many elongated eights), which take into account both the equation of mean time and the constant difference in longitude, so as to show the hours of our time zone directly on the dial.
The complete diagram of the sundial on steel panel, represents: solstices, equinoxes and the entire astronomical calendar, marked by the signs of the zodiac; the line of the actual sundial is also drawn on it, marked with a letter “M”, to indicate the moment of passage of the sun on the local meridian.
Both the classic oxidized finish, typical of this unique metal, and the framing of the dial, and the current time system drawn using lemniscates, give this sundial an unusually modern setting.
