Sundial painted with fruit
Sundial with fruit, painted as decoration. The various fruits were painted to celebrate the cyclical nature of the seasons in the Emilian countryside, from the first strawberries in spring to the fruits of summer and autumn, ending with walnuts, usually consumed in winter.
The dial of the sundial painted with fruit, shows: in orange, the Italic time system with residual hours, with Arabic numerals, to show how many hours of light are left until sunset; in brown, the true solar time of the place, drawn on the inner edge of the frame and with Roman numerals painted on the frame itself; in blue, the astronomical calendar marked by the equinoctial straight line and the hyperbolic curves that indicate the days in which the zodiac sign changes.
