What is third firing decoration?
Third firing decoration is an ancient technique used in the decoration of porcelain and porcelain stoneware. This technique consists of applying a layer of colour to the surface that has already been fired and glazed in two previous firings, and then returning it to the kiln for a third firing, at temperatures ranging from 750 degrees to 900 degrees, depending on the colours used.
The third firing technique allows for decoration with a precise application of colour, which, thanks to the third firing, ensures that the minerals contained in the colour fuse with the glassy coating of the surface, making them extremely resistant and unalterable over time.
